History of Kang

The Character of Kang the Conqueror

Kang the Conqueror has been featured on the Loki Disney+ TV series, and is a long running comic book character. Kang the Conqueror or one of his variants will be the main villain in the upcoming movie, Antman and the Wasp Quantumania. Kang the Conqueror first appears in the Avengers issue 8, and in this comic Kang tries to conquer Earth, but ends up being defeated by the Avengers and sent back to his original time period.

Kang is also known by the name of Rama Tut, and as Rama Tut, Kang traveled back into time to the days of ancient Egypt and had one of his first altercations with the Fantastic Four. Later on in Marvel Comics, Kang the Conqueror interacts with the villain Doctor Doom and this inspires him to officially become Kang the Conqueror.

Now Kang’s real name is Nathaniel Richards, and he is  a scholar from an alternative timeline of Earth or Earth 311. What’s unique about Nathaniel's Earth is that his is one that never experiences the Dark Ages. Now Nathaniel was bullied as a child, and this caused Nathaniel to become hospitalized. While recuperating, Nathaniel studied the world of heroes in Marvel Universe 616 or Marvel’s main continuity.

Nathaniel would want to travel to a better time period, and during his research he stumbles across a time machine created by a past relative of his. Now when Nathaniel or Kang travels throughout time he interacts and helps cause events in the main Marvel Universe timeline.

Kang the Conqueror isn’t a character that has a singular motivation. As he continues to appear throughout the Marvel universe his motivation will change slightly. At one point he even falls in love with a character known as Ravonna Renslayer. Ravonna ultimately rejects Kang, which causes him to try and defeat the Avengers as a way of impressing his love interest.
